When we undertake a job that required some woodwork, it is important to have the right tools as to achieve the desired result at the highest level of quality possible. Each trade has its tools, and even more so, each specific job will have a set of tools that will be critical to achieve the highest manufacturing quality possible.
Here at ToolsDIY we strive to make the process a little easier by creating a list of essential tools for woodwork for you.
The Claw Hammer
The irrefutable number 1 tool that is necessary in most, if not all woodworking jobs is the 20oz claw hammer, for hammering nails in, fixing joints and general hammering.
We have the essential budget hammer or for something with a little more oomph, the luxury 24oz hammer.
The sliding bevel
The end product is often defined by its symmetry. It is important to have the finishing touches looking perfect, and with a sliding bevel, you can adjust the angle so you can duplicate an angle on multiple surfaces.
You can use it with a protractor or by eye, our hardwood sliding bevel comes in two sizes and is essential for that neat finish.
The block plane
Important to get that desired finish or for taking a few layers off some wood. You’ve done the sawing and cutting, now you just need to get it down to the exact size and to smooth out the edge, and to do this, you need to shave small amounts of wood off at a time.
The standard plane is the 180mm block plane, but equally useful is a surform rasp plane, which works to the same effect as a cheese grater.
Chisel set
Your DIY project may require you to create a joint or a mortise, for connecting two pieces of wood together. There are various different types of mortise and tenon’s, but to get that good fit for a sturdy joint. You first need to ensure the joints are clean, smooth and free of any debris.
Always handy for finishing touches to inside joints, we supply a range of different chisels and chisel sets, a great starter set that will give all the sizes you need will be the 4 piece chisel set and should do for all but the most advanced DIY jobs, for that you can get a 12 piece chisel set.
Hand Sander
No matter what job you do, a good finish will require sanding. Many people fold a piece of sandpaper around a piece of wood, but this isn’t the most efficient method, and instead can give undesired results. You will find a hand sander is much more efficient and easier to use to get the required finish.
A hand sander gives the user a sturdy attachment to place the sanding paper and makes it much easier to get the desired finish, perfect for sanding down surfaces and rough edges, buy with a variety 10 piece set of sandpapers.
